Session
Types and their Definitions
The 5th Annual Meeting of
the American Society of Gene Therapy will offer a variety of session types. The
following are definitions of the respective sessions.
Education
Sessions (Wednesday
Only)
The goal of the ASGT
Education Program is to introduce participants to research areas with which they
do not have significant familiarity. Education sessions will be presented at a
basic level and focus mainly on scientific and technical aspects of gene
therapy. Topics for the sessions include the major vector systems, specific
target organs, selected topics in basic science that are relevant for gene
therapy, and issues related to gene therapy funding and regulation.
- Basic sessions that
provide the ABC’s of a specific topic and are geared toward individuals
with little knowledge about the topic who want a basic overview.
- The education sessions
start with basics – the sessions should be broad instructions about
specific topics.
- The education sessions are
not laboratory presentations.
- The Society’s Education
Committee developed the content of the education program.
Workshops
Informal roundtable lunch discussions with leaders in the field of gene therapy.
- Mid-size didactic
presentations with moderated question and answer periods at the end.
- Workshops cover practical
applications of gene therapy and vector development.
- Workshops consist of 5-6
speakers, who each give 10-minute talks.
- The Society’s
Scientific, Ethics and Industrial Liaison committees recommended topics and
suggested speakers for the workshops.
Scientific
Symposia
- Large, didactic sessions
where 3 to 4 speakers each provide an in-depth talk on their specific body
of work;
- Symposia are designed to
have a broad appeal (e.g., cancer, hemotopoieses, infectious diseases, etc.)
- The Society’s Scientific
and Ethics committees recommended topics and suggested speakers for the work
shops.
Meet-the-Expert
Lunches (Ticketed
Sessions)
- Informal roundtable lunch
discussions with leaders in the field of gene therapy.
